I Don’t Want to Show My Face Right Now is a response to my new awareness of my face during the early months of the COVID 19 pandemic. From a mixture of being isolated, wearing masks, and having the option of having my camera off in online zoom classes, I became hyper aware of people seeing my face. I became extremely comfortable with having a mask on to cover my face and became comfortable with people not seeing my face. This impacted my photography practice since a lot of my work consists of self— portraits. I chose to tackle this problem by doing a series of self—portraits obscuring my face from the camera in any way possible. Through camera features, props, and my body I hid my face from the camera. I wanted to still be present in the frame since that is something that is common in my self—portraits. By doing the project the way that I did I was still true to my way of working, but adjusted them so that I felt more comfortable. This project was a way for me to heal.
